All About Main Street Boards Workshops in Louisiana and Arkansas

Louisiana Main Street

In late January we provided an eight-hour training for Louisiana Main Street managers called “All About Main Street Boards” over the course of an afternoon and a morning.   Our Zoom workshop started with the board’s role in governance related to the State’s nonprofit law. We spent a large portion of the afternoon talking about building better boards by creating a yearlong nominating committee process to identify, vet, and prepare board members before nomination. We tackled questions like “Once nominated, what do board members actually do?  When does the board act? How can I be a better board member?”  We also focused on the officers, especially the board president’s multifaced role.  The end of the workshop was devoted to “train the trainer,” so managers could train their board members about how everyone can play a role in gathering friends and money for the downtown organization.

We have been asked to present this workshop for Arkansas Main Street on March 9-10. Would it be useful for Main Street towns in your state, city, or region? Contact us to learn more.
