New Solutions for House Museums book promotion
Stephanie Meeks, the president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation quoted Donna Ann Harris' 2007 book New Solutions for House Museums extensively in her opening plenary speech at the 2013 National preservation conference in Indianapolis IN.
While I had spoken with NTHP staff members during the year about the continuing plight facing historic house museums, I was pleased that Ms. Meeks built so much of her remarks around several of the options I explored as case studies in my book. Ms. Meeks spent considerable time discussing how the National Trust and other organizations are implementing changes at their historic sites to broaden their relevance to their communities or to seek new users to assure the historic site has a viable future.
