Book Chapter The Essential Role of Boards in Reimaging Historic Houe Museums

Since the 2007 publication of our book New Solutions for House Museums: Ensuring the Long-Term Preservation of America's Historic Houses we have been consulting with a wide variety of historic sites to facilitate meetings, conduct board training, assist in the development of interpretive plans, and complete heritage tourism assessments. At the heart of every historic house museum is the all-important Board of Directors, the dedicated volunteers who provide guidance and often do the work of the organization if there is no staff to present their site to the public. We were delighted to be invited to write an essay on “The Essential Role of Boards in Reimaging House Museums” for a new book edited by good friends Kenneth Turino and Max van Balgooy, tentatively titled Reimagining the Historic House Museum: Catalysts for Change. The anticipated publication of their book is in 2018 by Rowman and Littlefield. We are delighted to be part of this excellent textbook for those starting their museum careers
